We also represent several Mines and coking processing plants that produce some of the finest Metcoke in the world. These desirable products are accessible to the world in partnership with Tradekon.
The Steam coal that originates from the Norte de Santander region is known for possessing two specific qualities: a high calorific value and a low sulfur content.
High Calorific Value: Calorific value refers to the amount of heat energy produced when a specific amount of coal is burned. A desirable aspect of a fuel source for various industrial processes and energy generation.
Low Sulfur Content: Sulfur content is an important factor in coal quality. Coal with a low sulfur content is considered more environmentally friendly.
Additionally:
Low Phosphorus Content: Low phosphorus content might contribute to cleaner and more efficient combustion processes.
Steam Coal Type A: Coal mainly with calorific value greater than 12,100 btu / lb and less than 12,500 btu / lb (6600 <kcal / kgr <6950), ash less than <11%, sulfur maximum 1.2%, and Humidity less than < 7%
Steam Coal Type B : Coal mainly with calorific value greater than 11200btu / lb and less than 11,600 btu / lb (6000 <kcal / kgr <6200), ash less than <12%, sulfur maximum 1.2%, and Humidity ess than < 12%
In the region of Norte de Santander, Colombia, there are primarily two types of coking coals found: high-volatile coking coals and some medium-volatile coking coals.
High-Volatile and Medium-Volatile Coking Coals: These terms refer to specific types of coal that are used in the production of coke. Coke is a porous, carbon-rich material that is used as a fuel and as a reducing agent in the production of iron and steel. It has two important qualities:
Low Phosphorus Content: This is beneficial because phosphorus can have detrimental effects on the quality of steel produced from iron ore.
Coaking Coal Type A: ash less than <10%, sulfur maximum 1%, and Humidity less than < 10%

Coking Coal Type B : Ash less than <12%, sulfur maximum 1.2%, and Humidityl ess than < 10%
Volatile Mater 38-42

As a Result to the typical properties of the coals in the area of Norte de Santander and the Coaking process. A reactive coke is produced, which has low levels of phosphorus and sulfur.
Coking Process: The coals undergo a process known as "coquización" or coking. Coking is a thermal process where coal is heated in the absence of air to remove volatile components and transform it into coke, a more concentrated and solid carbonaceous material. This process is used in the production of metallurgical coke for use in industrial processes like iron and steelmaking.
Reactive Coke: The result of this coking process is a type of coke that is highly reactive
Low Phosphorus and Sulfur Content: The reactive coke produced has low levels of phosphorus and sulfur.
